It also has the highest tensile strength of all metals at temperatures over 1650°C. It is incredibly dense, with a density similar to gold and uranium. In fact, tungsten even means "heavy stone" in Swedish. Tungsten is typically alloyed with other materials because pure tungsten is extremely brittle and difficult to machine.
